Why are routers not ping and traceable Print

In order to protect our infrastructure against external attacks, has Serverius its routers (also bgp subnets to clients) have been configured to (almost) not respond to certain types of traffic that are sent directly to the routers.
This will include ICMP 
so when useing ping, traceroute or MTR, it may be displayed as timeouts and or packet loss. This is a deliberate choice. Our customer infrastructure behind our routers remains just accessible.
